Justification • CARD Steering Committee (Nov, ‘09) • Agreed to invite 11 countries for the process of NRDS Benin, Burkina Faso, CAR, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Liberia, Rwanda, Togo, Zambia • Criteria Potential of rice production Readiness of supporting partners Geographical balance

  3. 1. Justification • Updates • 10 countries submitted the list of the NRDS Task Force members • 7 countries submitted the zero draft • Steering Committee (17 May) • Political commitment • Readiness of accepting assistance • First Group countries well on track

  4. 2. Proposal • To commence the technical support to Benin, Burkina Faso, CAR, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, the Gambia, Liberia, Rwanda, Togo, Zambia • To withhold the decision on DR Congo DR Congo: Internally appointed the Task Force members

  5. 3. Process / Schedule Zero Draft Preliminary write-up Expert consultation and peer review (July 2010) Regional Workshop Final write-up, consultation with key in-country stakeholders (Technical support on demand) Consolidation Submission / Launching

  6. 4. Assistance • Technical • AfricaRice, FARA, IRRI, JICA and JIRCAS • Others invited (post-harvest, marketing) • Logistic • AfricaRice and JICA • CARD Secretariat • Secretarial work for necessary arrangements
