  1. The Blind Lock J C G Jennifer Mann - Chelmsford George Murphy - Dracut Christopher Ghadban - Dracut

  2. Meet Our Client J C G • Our client Joanne has been legally blind for two years. • Her eyesight deteriorates each day. • She lives in an apartment in Dracut, MA. • She cannot complete everyday tasks that she enjoys such as… Reading Music Cooking Grocery shopping Being conscious of her environment

  3. Our Project for Jo… J C G Our client needs to know when the door to her apartment is unlocked. How the Blind Lock circuit works: • Two NE555Ntimers are used in an astable circuit to generate a timing pulse. • One UA741P is used to amplify the beep. • A reed switch placed on the deadbolt and in the recess of the deadbolt is used to complete the circuit. How the product helps Jo: • When the door is NOT locked, by means of the deadbolt, the circuit will beep for two seconds, shut off for one second, and repeat. • When the door is locked and the deadbolt is in place, the circuit will open and the beeps will stop.

  4. Setbacks/Improvements J C G Setbacks Along The Way • Changed the main design of our project: • Switched from a push button sensor to a reed switch. • Got rid of the magnetic sensors on the door/doorframe. • Difficulties in building mock-up door/installing deadbolt. Improvements for Next Time! • Wireless indicators to inform her of the status of the door • Use of alarm clock to reminder her before bed to lock door • Automatic door locking device • Different colored Leds to help her further distinguish the status of the door
