  1. SUBs for Santa Why SUBs for Santa? Imagine you are 6 years old and in first grade. You live with Mom and your two older siblings. Dad is gone, or only there occasionally. Mom is struggling to keep food on the table, a roof over your head, and clothes on your back. You are wearing hand me down clothes from your older sibling. The shirt is too big, the pants as well. Even the shoes don’t fit right. When Mom has a few extra dollars, you can go to the thrift store and buy something that fits better. But you can’t get underwear at the thrift store. And even if you could, how would you feel wearing underwear someone else has worn? How does this affect you? Monday was a beautiful day – a great day to go outside at recess and play kickball with your classmates. But you decide it is safer to stay inside. Why? Your pants are too big, and you don’t have a belt or decent underwear. And you live in fear that your pants might slip down and the other children would see you and make fun of you. So it’s better not to take the chance. No child should have to suffer this indignity. So, Santa decided to collect new socks, underwear, and belts for children of elementary and preschool age. They will be distributed to schools with high levels of free or reduced cost lunches as well as shelters and Thrift stores. It has been a long running story that Santa delivers socks and underwear to children that may not believe in him anymore. And sometimes that is exactly what they need. Won’t you help Santa help these children?

So How do I help? • As a local Santa, ask the families and organizations you visit to donate new socks, underwear, and belts. • You may also find local businesses that will let you put out a container to collect donations of items • Collect these items so they can distribute them to local schools, shelters, and thrift stores • Children that need these items will get them from the distributing organization • All activities are local and under your direction

Documentation • Fill out the log of approximate amounts with source and destination • Send form to Santa-America • It will be logged to assure that all IRS requirements are met • You will be recognized as the facilitator in your area • If possible, get photos of your collections and deliveries • We will share your successes on the web-site and facebook Thanks for helping children in need
