  3. ‘Outbreak‘ of TBE at an alpine region in Austria after consumption of cheese from goat milk 2008 • Cheese made from raw milk of a single TBE virus infected goat • Consumption of the same batch of cheese by 7 family-related individuals • Six out of seven people infected with TBE virus • Four people hospitalized with TBE • Cheese and wey also fed to pigs: 4 of 4 infected, without any apparent disease • No evidence of TBE virus infection of cows at the same alpine meadow • Evidence for infection of the goat at an altitude of about 1500 m • Analysis of ticks from the alpine region ongoing
