  1. Adapted for easy reading by Mrs. Darmanin.

  2. This little old woman wants to make a gingerbread man. She wants to make one for two children, to have with their tea.

  3. When the gingerbread man is ready, the little old woman puts it into the oven. It will not take too long to bake, says the little old woman.

  4. When the ginger bread man is ready, the little old woman opens the oven to take it out. When she opens the oven door the gingerbread man jumps out of the pan and runs out of the door.

  5. A cow sees the gingerbread man. He looks good to eat, she thinks. Stop, stop, she says. But the little gingerbread man runs on.

  6. Now, the little gingerbread man, meets a horse. This little man looks good to eat, thinks the horse. Stop, stop, little man, says the horse. But the little man runs on. No one can catch me, he says.

  7. So the horse and the cow and the little old woman and the little old man chase the gingerbread man. The little man says, Run, run as fast as you can. You can’t catch me , I’m the gingerbread man.

  8. Now a hungry fox sees the gingerbread man. He looks good to eat, thinks the fox. I will make friends with him and try to eat him up.

  9. Stop, stop little man, calls out the fox, as he runs after the gingerbread man. I want to help you.

  10. The gingerbread man comes to a river. I can’t swim says the gingerbread man. How can I cross to the other side?

  11. The fox too comes to the river. I can help you cross the river, says the fox. You can jump on my tail and I will take you to the other side.

  12. So the gingerbread man jumps onto the fox’s tail. The fox jumps into the water and starts to swim to the other side of the river. My feet are in the water says the gingerbread man.

  13. So jump on my back says the fox. When the river gets deeper the gingerbread starts to get wet.

  14. So he jumps on the fox’s nose.

  15. Then S N A P ! ! ! With one big gulp the fox throws the gingerbread man into the air and gulps him up.

  16. And that was the end of the Gingerbread man
