  1. Properties of Jets in Z Boson Events from 1.8 TeV ppbar Collisions

  2. Physics Motivation • 6708 Ze+e- decays, from 106pb-1 • Sample large enough to study production of high energy hadronic jets associated with Z boson production • Good test of QCD • Small backgrounds • Z selects high Q2 parton-level processes • Z boson events are free of top quark contamination and provide a clean test of SM heavy boson production Christos Lazaridis, UW-CMS Student Meeting

  3. Isolated Electrons 1st: Tight selection cuts, CTC track Et ≥ 20GeV, abs(η) ≤ 1.1 2nd: Looser selection cuts Et ≥ 20GeV && abs(η) ≤ 1.1 or Et ≥ 15GeV && 1.1 ≤ abs(η) ≤ 2.4 or Et ≥ 10GeV && 2.4 ≤ abs(η) ≤ 3.7 ΔR e-jet ≥ 0.52 Jets Clustering algo with cone size Rj=0.4 2 jets with Et ≥ 12 GeV && ΔR ≤ 0.52 are combined in a single jet For this analysis, jets with Et ≥ 15 GeV && abs(η) ≤ 2.4 are selected Corrections: Photons counted as hadronic jets (MC) Extra ppbar interactions in same BX (minbias) Selection Cuts Christos Lazaridis, UW-CMS Student Meeting

  4. Z + ≥n jets cross section vs. n Christos Lazaridis, UW-CMS Student Meeting

  5. 1st, 2nd, 3rd highest Et jet Christos Lazaridis, UW-CMS Student Meeting

  6. Abs(cosΘ*) distribution • Θ* is the angle between the Z and the average beam direction in the Z + leading jet COM frame Christos Lazaridis, UW-CMS Student Meeting

  7. ΔR separation of two leading jets Christos Lazaridis, UW-CMS Student Meeting
