  2. Introduction

  3. <http://www.squidoo.com/animal-wind-chime-home-décor> <http://www.touryournewhome.com/?p=148> Wind Chimes Wind instrument that can produce sounds by wind-moving, our hands, or other stuffs. Constructed by tubes, platform and one stuff to make it ring.

  4. Objective • In this topic we will make a music instrument and our plan is to make modification of wind chimes. The purpose of this topic is how to make sounds and how shape and materials affect the sounds, to prove it we make a music instrument with one octave and with different variables there are first instrument we will make is using glass and the second is bamboo and the last aluminum tube and we make the size different because the shape or the size affect the sounds and the octave.

  5. Glasses

  6. Bamboo

  7. Aluminum Galpanis

  8. Hypothesis • We have predicted that the size or the shape will affect the sound for example the thick of the materials will impact the sound like bamboo wind chime. We already saw the wind chimes player when he played wind chimes. We could see that the wind chimes is thin and small make the sounds more sonorous and mellifluous. So we applied those techniques in our project. So it can produce one octave.

  11. Variables • Independent Variable: Each instruments has a different materials there are bamboo, glasses and aluminum tube • Dependent Variable: Those instruments produce different sounds and octave   • Control Variable: The length of the bamboo, glasses and aluminum tube and we used nylon to tied it.

  12. Methods

  13. For the cutting we ask the shop because we cannot do it with ourselves so we ask them to cut like a pipe for the aluminums and bamboos

  14. At maintenance school • We only have these picture. Aluminum and glasses we take the following days because when we arrived, their shop was time to close so we leave.

  15. Picture website http://indonetwork.co.id/sell/Mineral_&_Logam/Pipa_Besi/0.html http://www.advancedbuildings.org/bamboo-flooring.html

  16. Materials • 8 bamboos with diameter 2 and the length are 14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11.5cm, 10.5cm, 9.5cm, 8.5cm, 8cm • 8 pipe aluminum with diameter 2 and the length are 14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11.5cm, 10.5cm, 9.5cm, 8.5cm, 8cm • 8 thin glasses ( for making an aquarium ) and the width of the glasses are 2 cm and the lengths are14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11.5cm, 10.5cm, 9.5cm, 8.5cm, 8cm

  17. Bamboo : diameter 2 and the length are 14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11.5cm, 10.5cm, 9.5cm, 8.5cm, 8cm Aluminum :diameter 2 and the length are 14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11.5cm, 10.5cm, 9.5cm, 8.5cm, 8cm

  18. Glasses The width of the glasses are 2 cm and the lengths are14cm, 13cm, 12cm, 11.5cm, 10.5cm, 9.5cm, 8.5cm, 8cm

  19. Platform for these instruments • We used 2 bamboos which is each bamboo divided into 2 and finally there were 4 bamboo split, but we only used three because we only made 3 different instruments. • http://apaapa-an.blogspot.com/2012/01/fakta-fakta-unik-mengenai-bambu.html

  20. Each bamboo we make 8 holes ( 2 sides, in front of and behind ) to hold 1 octave instrument from do ( low ), re, mi, fa, sol, la, si, do ( high ).

  21. First • We put Aluminum Galpanis that already perforated in one hole ( the distance from the tip of the aluminum to the hole 2 cm ).

  22. Second • We put glasses ( the thick one ) that already perforated too in one hole ( the distance from the tip of the glass to the hole 2 cm ).

  23. Third • We put bamboo ( that already divided become 2, and we took half of it ). Already perforated too in one hole ( the distance from the tip of bamboo to the hole 2 cm ).

  24. Explanation

  25. Conclusion

  26. The purpose is to make an instrument with one octave and different variables. We choose bamboo, glass and Galvani because they have different density. They produce sounds by: • Vibrate: more vibrate will produce louder sound like galvani and glass rather than bamboo; because we cut the bamboo become half so the power of vibration reduces. • Density: the density of the variable makes the sounds different. More density will produce thicker sound. • Size: the size effect the pitch of the sound. Bigger size will produce lower pitch. Smaller size will produce higher pitch. • Force: to make the sound louder u can hit the chime with a big force and if the wind blow hardly it will be produce high volume.

  27. Evaluation

  28. The improvements are the design that we have made is not effective because of the tools limited so we have to change and modified our plan again and again and finally our wind chimes especially in bamboo is not really effectual because we only use an half bamboo so the vibrate is reducing. That why our bamboo chime is a bit fail.
