Origin and founder • The founder of Sikhism was Guru Nanak Ji (1469-1538) Born in Punjab • They believe in one god • Guru Nanak taught brotherhood for humanity • He said “there is no Hindu there is no Muslim "which became one of the pillars of Sikhism • Guru Nanak and Panth (his followers) later built the first Sikh temple at Katarpur. • In 1801, the Sikh state of Punjab was founded in Northern India by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.

  3. ADHERENTS WORLDWIDE • SIKHISM IS THE FIFTH LARGEST ORGANIZED RELIGION IN THE WORLD. • ONE OF THE FASTEST GROWING RELIGION • ADHRENTS OF SIKHISM IS KNOWN AS SIKHS • 26 MILLION ACROSS THE WORLD • THE PUNJAB IS THE HISTORIC HOMELAND OF SIKHISM.

  4. PRACTICES AND RITUALS • SIKH WORSHIP ONLY ONE GOD • THEY WORSHIP GOD IN HIS TRUE ABSTRACT FORM • SIKH CAN PRAY AT ANY TIME AND ANY PLACE • CONGREGATIONAL SIKH WORSHIP TAKES PLACE IN A GURDWARA • SIKH WORSHIP CAN BE LED BY ANY SIKH, MALE OR FEMALE.

TEXTS • The Granth is the central text of Sikhism, a religion that emerged in the Punjab region of India in the 15th Century.  • The Granth, compiled by Guru Gobind Singh, contains compositions of six Gurus, namely Guru Nanak, Guru Angad, Guru Amar Das, Guru Ram Das, Guru Arjan, and Guru Teg Bahadur. • The hymns are arranged by the thirty one ragas (musical forms) in which they were composed.  • The Granth is considered the living embodiment of the Gurus, the "eleventh guru".  •  Printed copies of the Granth are treated with the greatest respect.

  8. Symbols • The Khanda, ਖੰਡਾ, is one of  three and most important symbols of Sikhism. Khanda is commonly called the Sikh coat of arms, or "Khalsa Crest". • Khanda was introduced by the sixth Guru, Guru Hargobind Singhji • The Nishan Sahib is the Sikh flag  and plays an important role in the Sikh community. • Sikhs show great respect to their flag
