Basic beliefs/ foundation of Sikhism • One God but with many names. (Similar to Islam) • Reincarnation: Samsara • Rejected the caste system as they believe everyone is of equal status in the eyes of God.
Sacred text of Sikhism • Sri Guru Grant Sahib is the sacred text for Sikhism. • It is a collection of hymns describing the qualities of God and why one should meditate on God's name.
Concept of afterlife • In Sikhism there is no hell and heaven. • Sikhism teaches that the soul reincarnates when the body dies. Your next life depends on your “karma.” • The closest counterpart of hell would be the Narak. Where people with demonic, ego centered souls are to suffer great agonies.
Impact of rules on the daily lives of people • Prayers: repeated multiple times each day. • Worship: Sikhs are prohibited from worshipping idols, images, or icons • The 5 K’s
What is Sikhism’s concept of God • "One God, Eternal, The Reality, The Name, Creator and Doer, All-pervading, Without fear, Without rancor, transcending time, Unincarnate, Self-existent, (understood) through the Guru's grace."
