Understanding Falcon Egg Incubation and Hatching Failures

Learn how falcons protect their unhatched eggs during incubation. These birds keep their eggs warm, maintaining a temperature of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure proper development. Female falcons typically lay two to four eggs in spring, spaced out every other day until the nest is complete. However, not all eggs hatch; reasons include temperature fluctuations, developmental issues, or parents abandoning the nest. Explore the fascinating process of falcon reproduction and the challenges they face in their nurturing roles.

  2. How do falcons protect their eggs? • Parents protect their eggs by keeping them warm . • The eggs need to be kept at about 100 degrees during incubation. • If the eggs are not kept warm enough the babies will not develop correctly.

  3. How many eggs can a falcon lay? • The female falcons will lay only two to four eggs. • Eggs are only laid during the spring. • Eggs are laid about every other day until the nest is full.

  4. Why do eggs not hatch? • When an egg does not hatch it’s because the falcon in the egg dies during incubation. This can happen for several reasons: • The eggs were not kept at the right temperature • The eyas didn’t develop correctly • The parents abandoned the nest
