Graettinger-Terril Community SchoolsGifted and Talented—Identification Process K-2 Students are identified through • teacher recommendation and observation • BRI and DIBELS scores (if used) • MAP test scores 9-12 Students are identified through • BRI <Basic Reading Inventory test> (if available) • ITED scores • MAP scores • Teacher Recommendation • The Heart Database allows access to this information, which makes student evaluation very easy. Mainly students with Core totals at the 90th percentile and above are examined in this process. In addition, special attention is given to those with high scores in certain areas only. The state average for TAG “enrollment” is 2%. However, if you include the aforementioned students with high scores in one or two areas and those who are gifted artistically, musically and or in leadership only that percentage will be much greater.

SAMPLE LETTER FOR THE HS STUDENTS prior to 2010Greetings!Based on test scores, grades, motivation level and teacher recommendation, ___ has been placed on the list of those identified as Gifted and Talented at the High School level. I realize that ____ is very busy with school and extra-curricular activities but would like you to be aware that you/they may always call on me if in need of assistance in creating a more diversified and enhanced education for ___. If you have ideas for opportunities and other options we could provide to students that are gifted please give me a call. It would be great time to visit at Parent Teacher Conferences..
