These terms will be useful for digital marketing & internet marketing. The internet A worldwide network of computers that use the IP (internet protocol) to exchange data. IP Address A series of numbers used to identify an individual computer (using the internet protocol). These are used for both servers and clients. Domain Name An alias for the IP address to make identification easier (google.com is the domain name for the IP address 173.194.121.32. google.com is easier to memorize and access than the IP address). Uniform Resource Locator (URL) The address to a specific file on the internet. Network Two or more computers connected either physically (a cable) or wireless (wifi). Internet Service Provider (ISP) A company that has a permanent connection to the internet and provides it to customers. HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) A protocol for exchanging data on the internet, such as HTML documents. Web Page Individual pages displayed on the internet. Web Server/Host A computer that stores and sends data to client computers when they request information. Clients Computers that users use to request and retrieve data from servers. Intranet A private network that shares company information among employees. It is closed off from the public used (only the computers in that network can access the data in it. Hyperlink a link used to connect web pages to each other
