BACKGROUND

DEVELOPMENT ON THE INDIAN CSR FRONT

slide4

India`s emergence as one of the fastest growing economies which has changed the way the world perceives India. The irony, however, is that India is not a poor country but has one of the largest concentration of poor in the world. While India can be proud of what it has been able to achieve, it cannot remain impervious to the often indigestible reality.

  • The key interesting development is that the Company Bill-2013, has created an environment where businesses have to accept and embrace the idea of sustainable development and the recent developments in India’s legislative and policy landscapes companies are not just expected but are increasingly being mandated to take responsibilities of the impacts they are making on society and the environment.  Business regulations in like Department of Public Enterprise’ Guidelines on CSR (2009 & 2013), Ministry of Corporate Affairs’ National Voluntary Guidelines on Social, Environmental & Economic Responsibilities of Business (NVGs)’ (2011), Security and Exchange Board’s directives on mandatory reporting for top 100 BSE and NSE listed companies on CSR (2012)
