  1. QA/QC for AQ data flows Wim Mol European Topic Centre on Air and Climate Change (ETC/ACC)

  2. Contents • QA/QC adhoc actions in 2004 • QA/QC in the DEM • QA/QC feedback EoI2004 • Future QA/QC actions Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  3. QA/QC adhoc actions in 2004 • Phantom stations and questionable station coordinates • PM10 correction factors Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  4. QA/QC in the DEM • Inspection meta data in the screens and in DEM Meta info export files • Controls on import • Errors and warnings on mandatory, essential and desired meta data; on the units etc. • Visual inspection • Reports and export files • Outlier checks Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  5. QA/QC in the DEM • You are strongly requested to perform these checks Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  6. QA/QC feedback EoI2004 • The MS are responsible for the quality of the data • The checks performed by ETC/ACC are extra service to improve the quality of AirBase • The checks on mandatory/essential data and outliers can also be performed by the data supplier Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  7. QA/QC feedback EoI2004 • 1 October: all DEMs are received • 1 Oct-Jan next year: Uploading in AirBase; QA/QC reports are sent; reactions from the MS • Jan- 1 Mar: reactions processed • March: calculations statistics and exceedances • 1 April: New data available in AirBase: AirView and XML dumps Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  8. QA/QC feedback EoI2004 Feedback reports: • Components • Missing mandatory/essential meta info • Re-submitted data • Deletion stations/meas. conf. with data • Deletion stations/meas. conf. without data Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  9. QA/QC feedback EoI2004 Calculation statistics/exceedances: • Consistency between raw data and statistics • Same algorithms • Always statistics calculated independent of data coverage Training workshop 09-10 June 2005

  10. Current/Future QA/QC actions • Filling time gaps (historical data) • Checking station coordinates and characteristics (spec. Urban stations) • More information about measurement methods (including PM10 correction factors) • Checks (including outliers) on historical AirBase data • Heavy metals (4th DD) reported in wrong units Training workshop 09-10 June 2005
