  3. Background • Established to address current issues facing the development of Hurling in Antrim • Underage • Development Squads • Senior Club – Inter County • 6 meetings held since August 2012 • Reviewed existing successful delivery models • 5 proposals identified for immediate action

  5. Proposal 1All Hurling Competitions to be Played on an All- County Basis • Key Elements • Under 14 through to Senior • Competitions to be played on an all county basis • Benefits • Greater unity within the county • Better opportunity to identify and develop talented hurlers

Proposal 2 Adult Club Leagues & Championship • Key Elements • Division 1 - 12 team league = single round basis • Division 2 & 3 – 8 team leagues = home & away basis • Division 4 -6 team league = played on a home and away basis • Championship aligned to league structures • Benefits • Better opportunities for player development • Increasing the number of players playing at the top level • Better balance leagues and number of ‘high stake’ games

Proposal 3 Unification of Playing Days • Essential ingredient for the successful implementation of Antrim Development Squads programme. • This model has been recognised an essential part of hurling development in other counties: Dublin, Limerick, Kilkenny etc. • This will result in a ‘Master Plan’ for fixtures, development squads and county training within the County (u14-Senior)

  8. Proposal 4Entry into Leinster Leagues/C’Ships • Key Elements • U14 -Senior • Application to Leinster Provincial Council • Benefits • Higher quality competition • Improved coaching standards • Improved inter county/club links and relationships

  9. Proposal 5Appointment of a High Performance Director • Key Elements • High calibre appointment • 3-5 years senior management experience • Relevant coaching qualifications/experience • Benefits • Co-ordinated approach to the development of hurling in Antrim • Continuity of development

Proposal 5 (2)High Performance Director: Job Description The post holder will be responsible for: • Developing policies, programmes and coaching plans for all development squads • Recruiting, training and supporting all managers/coaches involved in development squads • Establishing and developing elite squads (coaching, strength and conditioning etc) • Monitoring and reviewing the progress players and coaches involved in development squads

Next Steps • Feedback considered by Hurling Focus Group • Proposals will be finalised for County Convention – December 2012 • Immediate implementation of proposals (January – June 2013) • Process for Strategy Development 2013-18 initiated. • Presentation to GAA Officials to secure greater levels of investment in Hurling in Antrim
