Basics on Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment

Deterministic Seismic Hazard Assessment (DSHA) is a straight forward and simplified framework, which can be used for estimation of worst possible ground motions (Kramer 1996). It comprises the following four broad steps: (1) identifying sources around the site of interest; (2) computing the shortest source to site distance; (3) using appropriate Ground Motion Prediction Equations (GMPEs) for estimating ground motion parameters at the site corresponding to every identified source; and (4) reporting the maximum ground motion parameter at the site.
