  2. Questions to Answer • Why is it important to review policies and procedures? • Should we have a school-wide plan? • Should certain items be grade specific? • How can we better utilize discipline without losing quality instructional time? • What does our data say?

Data Review • As of February 26, 2008 there were 431 discipline referrals at Union Grove Middle School. • The largest group of referrals were for Behavior Detrimental to the Learning Environment (140) 33% • The second largest group of referrals were for dress code violations (96) 22% • The third largest group of referrals were for inappropriate physical contact (58) 13% • The fourth largest group of referrals were for possession/ use of cell phone. (50) 12% • The fifth largest group of referrals were for bus misconduct. (41) 10% • 80% of all referrals fall under these categories.

Data Review cont. • Administrative action for bus suspension and dress doe violations for 1st time is a warning. • 108 warnings were issued • 352 incidents assigned to in-school suspension for a total of 844 days. • 48 incidents assigned to out-of-school suspension for a total of 100 days. • 17 incidents assigned to out-of-school suspension pending a hearing for a total of 62 days. • 1 incident assigned to in-school suspension pending a hearing for a total of 3 days. • TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS MISSED DUE TO ISS 847 • TOTAL NUMBER OF DAYS MISSED DUE TO OSS 162 • TOTAL NUMBER OF INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS MISSED 1109
