  1. University Centre for Energy Efficient Buildings ofCzech Technical University in Prague, Czech Republic PavlaRYKLOVÁ, ŠtěpánMANČÍK, Antonín LUPÍŠEK Environmental Benefits of Timber-Concrete Prefabricated Construction System for Apartment Buildings – a comparative LCA study

  2. Motivation and aims • low carbon building • speed up construction proces • comparative LCA studies of construction system

  3. TiCo • environmental friendly flexible system for apartment houses • lightweight non-load-bearing structures based on wood • subtle load-bearing structures based on high-quality concrete • maximum use of prefabrication https://www.rdrymarov.cz/novinky-a-akce/drevostavba-vs-zdeny-dum-ma-tento-souboj-viteze (5.6.2019) https://www.uceeb.cz/oseeb/material/(5.6.2019)

  4. Building and variants • apartment building • five storeywith a flat roof • 18.3 x 11 x 15.5 m • 13 flats • 4 three-room flats with kitchenette • 9 one-room flats with kitchenette

  5. Building and variants MW = mineralwool, EPS = expanded polystyrene, PVC = polyvinyl chloride, RC = reinforcedconcrete

  6. Boundaryconditions • only construction system • SBToolCZ • GWP, nPEI • only embodied = A1 – A3 + (B4) • Ecoinvent • 50 years https://nexus.openlca.org/database/ecoinvent in 17.06.2019

  7. Results n PEI (nonPEI) GWP (GHG)

  8. Imperfection • simplified LCA X design phase • limitations of the study: • service life • wider range of indicators and phases • another work, similar system • less 10 % PEI and 32 % GWP • 20 % higher SOx emission • differences among variants are only 3 – 32 %

  9. Conclusion • wooden variants is the best • combination nature material with high-quality subtle concreteis between wooden and traditional construction system • precast vs. cast-in-place need more detailed LCA • operational energy and energy source • design isn‘t only about environmental • connecting BIM with environmental data, more indicators
