  1. Cubbie and Charlie By Mrs. Sandoz

  2. Cubbie and Charlie are the best of friends. Their days are filled with playing, romping, and eating together. But, sometimes, Cubbie would like to be left alone.

  3. However…. Charlie will have nothing to do with that. Nobody can have fun if he can’t be part of it.

  4. If Cubbie wants to go outside, Charlie follows along. Before Charlie heads inside, he won’t leave without his best friend. He will search for Cubbie, find him, and drag him in like a helpless bird.

  5. One day, Cubbie decided to put a stop to being bossed around and boldly told Charlie, “I am not going to be dragged inside again! I want to play outside and I am going to stay outside with or without you! “ Charlie was shocked by Cubbie’s boldness and replied, “Fine, don’t be my friend!” Charlie turned and walked away with his tail hanging low.

  6. Cubbie couldn’t believe it, he was free from the reigns of Charlie!! He ran, jumped, barked, scampered, and bolted. Just then he spotted something. It was huge. “I think it’s a wolf!” Cubbie thought nervously. “I sure wish Charlie was here.”

  7. And as the wolf was smiling and chomping his chops thinking about dinner; Charlie came out of nowhere and charged at him and knocked him over.

  8. The Wolf got up and ran away a coward. Cubbie ran over to Charlie cheering that his best friend saved him. “I am sorry I didn’t want to play with you. I will never say that again.” Now Charlie’s mind was made up to go inside and this time he dragged Cubbie without any resistance. Cubbie loved having Charlie by his side. What a true friend!
