Field Testing for the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium
Field test Dates • March 18–June 6, 2014 • Last 12 weeks of the district’s school year • Shorter window for grade 11 – possibly 5 weeks Online Only
Field Test Sample • All students in a selected grade • ELA/literacy assessment OR mathematics – not both • ETS – Contractor • September, schools volunteer to participate via web registration. • Select additional schools to ensure sample is representative • Notify districts that have schools selected. • As with all field testing, participation is required.
National ParticipationAt Least 22 States10% in ELA, 10% in mathematics • Grades 3 – 8: 200,000 per grade • Grades 9 & 10 for Vertical Scale: 52,000 per grade • Grade 11: 560,000 • Total: Almost 2 million students
Participation in South Carolina(10% in ELA, 10% in mathematics) • Grades 3-8: 9,000 per grade • Grade 9 & 10 for Vertical Scale: 2,200 per grade • Grade 11: 24,000 • Statewide Total: 82,000
