  2. Infertility • Can be defined as a couple or individual who experiences difficulties becoming pregnant after 12 months of unprotected intercourse • The cannot conceive a child through natural means

  3. Sterility • Is the physiological inability to effect sexual reproduction • Unable to reproduce at all!

  4. Diagnosing Infertility: • 12 months is also how long experts recommend trying to conceive before seeing a specialist • If you're 35+, you're advised to see a specialist after just 6months of trying • 85% of couples trying to get pregnant will conceive within a year, leaving about 15% categorized as infertile • Infertile couples who keep trying past the 1 year mark, about a 1/3 of them will conceive naturally, without medical intervention • The rest can be helped with fertility treatments. Nearly 90 percent of couples diagnosed with infertility will eventually get pregnant.

  5. Causes of Infertility: • 30% of infertility cases are due to male fertility issues • another 30% are due to female fertility issues and • the remaining 40% to multiple factors involving both partners – or to causes that can't be explained
