  2. Purpose of a Resume To entice a prospective employer to call you for an interview • Show you can make an immediate & valuable contribution • Only include information relevant to the position • Focus on where you are going with your career

  5. Objective • Most resumes of entry-level grads need one! • Gives focus to your job search • Clear and concise statement about the position you are seeking using a job title or a job description • May be specific or general

  6. Education • List universities in reverse chronological order • Do not include high school • Name of institution, city, state, degree, major/minor, graduation date, GPA=3.0 • Selected courses/Detail on course work • Honors/Scholarships • Computer skills • Foreign languages • % self-supporting if greater than 50%

  7. Sample Education Education Morehead State University Morehead, KY Bachelor degree in Accounting Expected May 2011 GPA: 3.0/4.0, worked 20+ hours/week

  8. Skills • Highlights qualifications in an easy to read format • Example: Qualifications • Proficient in C++, HTML, JAVA • Knowledge of website design • Understanding of SQL databases • 4 years customer service experience

  9. Experience • Anything career related, including volunteer positions, co-ops, internships • List in reverse chronological order (most recent position first) • Info to include: employer, location (city, state), job title, dates of employment and description of your duties and accomplishments

  10. Sample Experience • Powerful Job Description Statements With Action Words • Example: Toyota Erlanger, KY Engineering Intern Spring 2009, Summer 2010 • Designed car doors using AutoCAD • Reduced waste on line by 20%, saving $300,000

  11. Activities • Include Relevant Activities (i.e., Fraternity, Sorority, Campus Organizations, Sports, etc.) • List positions and describe your participation • Incorporate skills acquired and used • Focus on accomplishments
