  1. Title for today - Henry’s Aims Bell Task Henry VIII succeeded to the throne 2 months before his eighteenth birthday. Think carefully about the legacy left behind by Henry VII. If you were Henry, or his advisors, what would be your main priority aims as you took over the governance of England? How could you achieve these aims?

  2. Reading day task • Complete the Focus Task on p 87 of SHP. • Don’t forget to use detailed evidence to support your assertions. • Complete the Activity Questions on p90 and 91 of SHP. For Info - Channel 5 documentary on the Wars of the Roses.

To establish his status amongst European monarchs through marriage To re-establish the role of the nobility To establish himself as a warrior king through success in battle Use Tillbrook p 67 – 68 to: add focused and brief factual notes explain how these actions fulfilled the aims make links between these

  4. What were his longer term aims as the reign progressed? (Tillbrook p 68 + OK)

  5. Start the table on Tillbrook p69 Obviously we need to develop a lot more detailed and precise contextual knowledge as the term progresses, but on the information gained so far, how does the reign of Henry VIII compare to that of Henry VII?
