Philippians- 2:19-30 • Paul describes the examples of 2 characters- Timothy and Epaphroditus. • Timothy had genuine care for the Saints at Philippi and it was selfless. • Epap is described as:: • True brother • Co-worker • Fellow soldier • Hospitality, love, joy, honor: these to be expressed. • * 2 Tim 3:10 • I Cor 13:5 • * Phil 2:4 • * Philemon 1:24 (soldier) • Acts 20:24 • How should we act towards other Christian’s? • What do we learn in Phil 2:4? Provide some examples of how. • How can we follow the example of Epap? • The qualities listed in v:29 are critical as an expression of Christian love. Discuss • Are you anxious for missionaries? Their work, their needs?

  2. Philippians- 3:1-11 • We are to be mindful and watch out for evil doers (false teachers) • Notice Paul’s reliance on Christ’s work; not his own. V:3 • Human effort seems to fall by the wayside- trying to earn salvation. • The result of human effort in righteousness is “garbage” v:8 • Paul yearned for “knowing Christ” • Rev 22:15 (evil doers) • 2 Cor 11:13 • Rom 2:29 • Rom 9:6 • Gal 6:15 • Gal 5:25 • 2 Cor 5:16 • John 17:3 • 2 Pet 1:3 • We are to watch out for people who are evil and place emphasis on human efforts for righteousness. Discuss • What does it mean to “count all things as loss compared to knowing Christ?” • How did Paul rely on Christ for salvation? • In addition to knowing Christ what did Paul yearn for? • Thought= what do you yearn for?
