The premise behind the gastric banding procedure is basically to re-educate your stomach and your body on how much it needs to eat. A band is placed around the entry to the stomach which creates a small pouch at the top. This pouch is quickly filled each time you eat and it allows food to be released from the top of your stomach to the bottom in a slow manner. Because the top of the stomach fills quickly, it notifies your body that “it is full.” As you now fell full much quicker than before, you eat less and begin to lose weight at a normal and healthy pace
