  1. Welcome and Introduction IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL As-Salaam Alaikum My name is Sister Dorothy J. Muhammad.I am enrolled in Muhammad’s University of Islam and I am a student in the Muslim Girls Training and General Civilization Class of the Nation of Islam. It has been a class of self-discovery and learning about the Universal Order of Things. I feel like Dorothy on the Yellow Brick Road. She met the scarecrow, the Tin Man and the lion. 5. WHY DO WE NEED A READING-LIFE SKILLS CURRICULUM? Some Problems Some Solutions Illiteracy Rates are soaring Teach students how to read Lack of order in classroom Preparation and Instruction White Supremacist Lies Teach our Students Truth Cold Sterile Environment Warm Nurturing Environment Lack of Respect for Elders Teach Civilized Behavior

  6. What it Teaches Students • Teach students how to read using 46 sounds • Reading Comprehension • Vocabulary Development • Life Skills (awareness, responsibility, respect)

  7. When Do we begin teaching students to read? Illiteracy is defined as an inability to read or write. Many adults and teens are considered to be functionally illiterate. If we trace the root of their problems, it would guide us back to their pre-school and elementary years. It is doing those years that students learn the basics of reading and writing. Just think about the progress we could make if students learned how to read proficiently during the pre-school and elementary school years. We have started the ball rolling in that direction with our curriculum.

  8. Where can we Teach The Ascension Learning Curriculum? It can be taught at home or in the classroom.

  9. Who can Benefit from our Curriculum? • We begin all classes with auditory stimulation and visual activities - that are designed to improve reading proficiency. • Although our curriculum is designed for pre-school years, it can also be used to teach older students and adults who do not know how to read because we teach the 46 sounds of the English language.
