Professional Development for O’ and A’ level teachers Group 1
Current situation • Limited training Opportunities/support from CIE/SG/RO (Webinars & face to face, online courses, video conferencing) • CIE not addressing all levels & all subjects (Beginners, Intermediate & Advanced) • SG/RO training does not have expertise for subject specific needs (more generic in nature) • SG/RO trainings-Not structured (no proper training calendar) • Budget constraints specially trainings offered by CIE • No follow up of trainings provided
Suggestions • Capacity building programme for O levels • School based trainings using indigenous talent • Setting targets for O & A-level teachers • Subject specialists to be identified and trained- fast track programme for them • Retain them through different incentives • Back-up plan • Structured sharing of good practices- top down • RO to keep pool of willing, competent teachers • Blend of Formal and Informal sessions- as per need • Need based trainings from RO and CIE- one central, organized training calendar Reliance on indigenous talent • Capacity building within schools/SBPD • Replicating the HEX model at one of the O’level Branches • RO to organize PD trainings for novice teachers at the beginning of academic session using own subject specialists • Formal & informal PD trainings
A’ levels • Online courses and examination sessions • Bring Interactivity in A' levels • Pool of willing A’ levels teachers for structured support, mentoring and monitoring of teachers • webinars
Constraints • Monetary benefits? • Time constraints • Willingness to share • Availability • Mind set • Complacency • Limited pool of A-Level teachers
