Grave/Dignified • Used 4 times in the New Testament (Phil. 4:8; Tit. 2:2; 1 Tim. 3:8, 11) • BDAG: “to evoking special respect; (1) of living entities; (a) human beings worthy of respect/honor, noble, dignified, serious…” • Thayer: that characteristic of a person or thing which entitles to reverence, or respect dignity, majesty, sanctity. • The worthy woman inspired respect (Prov. 31:25, 28, 29) • She is not guilty of crudity or course jesting. • She is joyous, but dignified. Living in a way that inspires respect.

  3. Not Slanderous/Not Malicious Gossips • Diabolos • BDAG: (1) pertains to engagement in slander, slanderous (2) substantively, one who engages in slander • Talebearers, gossips, innuendo • She should speak the truth in love (Eph. 4:15) • She is not loose lipped or a gossip. • Can she control her tongue?

  4. Sober/Temperate • BDAG: (1) pertains to being very moderate in drinking of an alcoholic beverage, temperate, sober (2) pertains to being restrained in conduct, self-controlled, level headed,…” • Patton: “One must be prudent and self-controlled under emotional wisdom at all times…” • Used 6 times in the New Testament (1 Thess. 5:6,8; 2 Tim. 4:5; 1 Peter 1:13; 4:7; 5:8)

  5. Faithful in All Things • Pistos occurs some 67 times in the New Testament. It refers to faithful and reliable. • BDAG: (1) pertaining to being worthy of belief or trust, trustworthy, faithful, dependable, inspiring trust/faith (2) pertaining to being trusting, cherishing faith trust. • Is she reliable or trustworthy? • Can she be counted on to uphold the Lord’s cause? • Is her faithfulness to the Lord, her husband, her family and the church evident? • Does she fulfill her responsibilities and seek opportunities to serve others?

  6. Supporting Her Husband in Meeting the Qualifications • Husband of one wife • Given to hospitality • One that rules his own household well • Believing children • Good report toward those who are without • Loving what is good
