Standards development dates back to 1920’s • As an ANSI-accredited SDO, TIA develops consensus-based, voluntary industry standards for a wide variety of telecommunications products and systems • 11 product-oriented Engineering Committees (TR/FO) • Over 70 subcommittees and working groups • Over 1,400 individuals from nearly 20 countries work in these formulating groups • Representatives from academia, manufacturers, service providers and end-users, including the government

TR-30, Data Transmission Systems and Equipment • TR-34, Satellite Equipment and Systems • Develops standards and technical requirements for space telecom systems (incl. earth segments) • Also multiple access and interfaces with other systems, radiation phenomena, propagation characteristics and data transmission systems which are an integral part of the space system • Involved in various IP-related activities • New WG: TR-34.1.7, "IP Over Satellite (IPoS)” • Aspects that involve efficient IP services over satellite • Specifically targeted for an IPoS solution that addresses residential markets • Established ANSI accredited forum for future satellite based IP-related standards work

TR-30, Data Transmission Systems and Equipment • V.MoIP, Procedures for the End-to-End connection of V-series DCEs over an IP Network • Specifies the operation between two IP Network gateways to facilitate the end-to-end connection of V-series DCEs over an IP network • Support of a mechanism to allow the transparent transport of modem signals end-to-end (Voice Band Data (VBD)) • Support of mechanisms to allow the termination of modem signals at the gateways and the transport of the data between gateways (Modem Relay (MR)) • The definition of a transport protocols, suitable for the relay the data between gateways (example, Simple Packet Transport Protocol (SPRT))

New issues are being addressed in Annexes to the Recommendation. • The first issue of V.MoIP is scheduled for Consent at the October meeting of Study Group 16

TR-41 Mission & Scope • Develop standards for telecommunications terminal equipment and systems, specifically those used for voice service, integrated voice and data service, and Internet Protocol (IP) applications • Address performance criteria for equipment, systems and networks, as well as the information necessary to ensure their proper interworking with each other, with public networks, with IP telephony infrastructures and with carrier-provided private-line services

ANSI/TIA/EIA-810-A (Narrowband Voice Transmission Requirements for Digital Telephones, Including VoIP) • Handset, headset, and hands-free audio performance for 300 to 3400 Hz bandwidth • Covers frequency response, loudness ratings, noise, distortion, acoustic echo path loss, and peak acoustic pressure • Includes guidance on packet delay effects

TIA/EIA/IS-811 (Performance and Interoperability Requirements for VoIP Feature Telephones) • Covers VoIP telephones using H.323, Megaco, and SIP signaling protocols • Requires direct 10BASE-T or 100BASE-T Ethernet connectivity • Includes requirements for displays, keypads, acoustic performance, and telephone features ranging from hold and redial to call waiting, call forwarding, and calling party identification

TIA-912 (Voice Gateway Transmission Requirements) • Provides a loss and level plan similar to that in TIA/EIA-464-C for PBXs • Also includes a half-channel loss plan that is harmonized with ETSI ES 202 020 • Addresses impairments such as echo, noise, and distortion • Supercedes TIA TSB-122-A loss and level guidelines

Current TIA TR-41 VoIP Projects (cont) • PN-3-0061, IP Telephony Security Framework • Project to examine IP network architectural security, authentication, authorization, privacy, and governmental requirements • Has identified a need for a security protocol suite tailored for devices with limited resources and brought this to the attention of IETF • Expected to result in a TSB

Supports concurrent voice and data calls • Future revisions will support end to end QoS and QoS negotiation and support for all-IP phase 1 network application of the RAN
