defining the acig scope
Defining the ACIG Scope
  • The Atmospheric Composition Interest Group was formed as a forum for atmospheric composition activities across WGISS in support of the CEOS Atmospheric Composition Constellation (ACC).
  • The ACIG plans to coordinate WGISS contributions among remotely sensed atmospheric composition data and user communities, and to interface with related activities, such as the GEO Architecture Implementation Pilot and Sensor Web.
  • ACC Portal has been the initial group activity
    • Should the group engage in other activities at this time?
  • Related activities to track and connect with
    • GEOSS AIP
    • GEO Task: EO Priorities
    • Health SBA
geoss architecture implementation pilot
GEOSS Architecture Implementation Pilot
  • Objective: Evaluate and test GEOSS Common Infrastructure
  • Air Quality & Health Working Group
  • Connect the ACC Portal as a GEOSS Community Portal?

eo priorities for aq health
EO Priorities for AQ & Health
  • Part of GEO Task US-09-01a: Identify Critical Earth Observation Priorities for Societal Benefit Areas
  • Objective is to describe and prioritize user needs for critical Earth observation in nine societal benefit areas (SBAs)
  • Health SBA
    • Air quality and health
  • Task Activities
    • Creation of advisory group
    • Identification of EO needs documents
    • Review of documents
    • Prioritization of needs
    • EO priorities report
  • Can ACIG make use of this information to target its efforts (e.g., identify users and needs for the ACC Portal)?
security considerations
Security Considerations
  • Many systems are at an R&D level, therefore have not formalized a security approach
    • However, as they move forward, these need to be considered in more advanced forms
  • Currently, some security issues are addressed by “buffering” data providers’ servers
    • Gateways and portals are mediators between their 'user' and the provider.
    • Allows the mediator to be the trusted interface to provider and
      • Handle server loading (limit data request types)
      • Filter malicious users and intent
      • Limit data access (only provide access to subset of provider’s data)
recommendations for wgiss
Recommendations for WGISS
  • Seek feedback and engagement from WGISS
    • Identification of other existing AC programs, portals and efforts that should be engaged in the ACC Portal development process
    • Identification of available and desirable AC data products of interest
    • Feedback and suggestions on ACC Portal plan
    • Interest in participation in ACC Portal activities
  • Pursue coordination with Health SBA
    • possible 2010 project
  • Demonstrable Outcomes
    • Assess feasibility of an ACC Portal prototype at GEO-VI
