Myths of Study Abroad • I can’t afford to study abroad (lots of scholarships) • I have to speak another language (travel courses are in English) • Studying abroad will keep me from graduating on time (travel courses can be fit in anytime) • I can’t study abroad until my junior year (any year) • I really only need to study abroad if I plan on working internationally (soft skills important everywhere)

  6. What Does a Faculty-led Travel Course Look Like? Commonalities • ISU Courses with an international “field trip” • Travel during fall, winter, spring and summer breaks • Trips vary: 10 days - six weeks • On campus course the semester before the trip (academic and travel preparation) • Credits vary - determined by dept. (1 credit per week abroad) • Class size ranges from 12-24 • Combination of class time/field trips

  7. How Does the College Invest in Faculty-led Travel Courses? Scholarships for students CALS ~$50K - $80K per year Group Leader Grants $8,000 per year Agriculture Study Abroad Faculty Training Faculty Development Trips Logistical Support Support with campus requirements
