Elder Justice Coalition • Elder Justice Coalition celebrates its 11th anniversary in 2014. • It is only about advocacy: defined as educating, informing and advocating on behalf of elder justice at national level. • Bipartisan in nature, as the issue has been. • Began with group of 5 founders. • Grown to over 3000 members nationally

Elder Abuse Is Real • Beyond the point of asking if elder abuse is real in U.S. • 1 in 10 people over 60 are victims • Elder financial abuse costs victims $3 billion a year. • Of all federal resources for abuse prevention less than 2 percent for elder abuse. • No dedicated federal home for adult protective services • Time for change.

  8. Elder Justice Initiative • $25 million Elder Justice Initiative as proposed in the President’s budget • $13.8 million to enhance APS, including databases and program standards • $11.2 million for research, including screening tools and foundational research

  9. Congressional Action Imminent • Critical time. • June 10: Subcommittee markup • June 12: Full committee markup • Absolutely pivotal. • Senate seen as lead as they were with Elder Justice Act. • Would be a first time direct appropriation.
