  2. Essay should have crisp, focused thesis and topic sentences Antigone and Ismene’s relationship is not very good. VS. Antigone and Ismene show a close sisterly relationship that is full of love but clouded with arguments. Sophocles shows many examples of inflexibility in Antigone. VS. In Antigone Sophocles’ main message is that inflexibility can lead to destruction.

  3. Page numbers go in parentheses-don’t make them part of the sentence. On page 250, Eurydice commits suicide because of her despair. VS. Eurydice commits suicide because of her despair (Ant.250).

  4. Title should be interesting and show effort-remember capitalization rules! Creon, the Tragic Hero VS. Even the Mighty May Fall OR And Then There Was One OR Creon, the Master of His Own Demise

  5. Introduction should contain the name ofthe play and author Antigone is a play or drama.Book is too general; it’s not a novel.

  6. A body paragraph without cites is an unsupported paragraph. Although cites are necessary, any old cite thrown into a paragraph does not mean it has good content or supports the MSP adequately. Make sure all assertions are backed up with text support.

  7. Don’t stick in cites following general points of argument. You must provide examples or quotes, not just an undeveloped citation. Creon suffers many losses (Ant. 244; 247). VS. Creon suffers many losses. For example, both his son and his wife commit suicide (Ant. 244; 247).
