  1. How safe is intrauterine device for birth control? What is an IUD? An IUD or intrauterine device is a small metal device usually in the form of T that is placed in the uterus of a woman to prevent conception. The device does not cause an abortion or interferes with the implantation of an ovule that has already been fertilized. It only prevents the sperm from reaching the egg. The IUD is inserted by a doctor in a doctor's office. The two upper bars of the T fit near the openings of the fallopian tubes, where the ovum would be fertilized and the longer section of the IUD resting perpendicular to the ovaries in the center of the uterus. The IUD has a metal "string" attached so it can be removed if the woman who uses it wants to be pregnant. A woman may have a new IUD inserted the same day that an old IUD was removed. The intrauterine device India is almost error-proof, which makes it one of the most effective contraceptive methods available. How effective is the intrauterine device as a contraceptive? The IUD is one of the best contraceptive methods available: It has an effectiveness of more than 99%. This means that, annually, fewer than 1 in 100 people who use an IUD become pregnant. As told by intrauterine device manufacturers, the IUD is very effective because there is no chance of making an error. You cannot forget to take it (like the pill) or use it incorrectly (like the condom). In addition, it protects you against pregnancies during the 24 hours, the 7 days of the week, during 3 to 12 years, according to which you use. Once the IUD is placed, you can safely forget about it until it expires. How effective is the intrauterine copper device when used as emergency contraception? The copper IUD is the best emergency contraception method available. Placed within 120 hours (5 days) after having unprotected sex, it has an effectiveness of over 99.9% to avoid pregnancy. Then, if you wish, you can keep it to avoid pregnancy for up to 12 more years. Does the intrauterine device protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)? No, the IUD does not protect against STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). Luckily, using a condom or a female condom every time you have sex reduces the chances of getting or spreading STDs. Therefore, the use of the condom together with the IUD is appropriate. Most women can use an IUD without a problem. Depending on the type you choose, you can continue working for three to 10 years. Less than one in 100 women using an IUD get pregnant every year. Decide which birth control is right for you When it comes to birth control, it is important that you choose something that fits your lifestyle. An intrauterine device (IUD) may be a perfect choice for you if you want long-term protection without worrying about taking a daily birth control pill.
