Muscles -made of fibers in bands… includes voluntary muscles and involuntary muscles, as well as cardiac • Voluntary-skeletal muscles, striated, you control them, move the body • Involuntary-organ muscles, smooth, you don’t control them (diaphragm, uterus, bladder) • Cardiac - heart, compination of smooth and striated, involuntary

  3. How a muscle works: • Two types of fibers, one grips the other. To start the gripping/contracting process, calcium attaches to ions, expose the fibers and start the contraction. Then the calcium releases the ion, and the contraction stops, releasing the muscle.

  4. Interesting Facts • Why muscles cramp • Not enough water, therefore body can’t control heat generated by contractions, slow down, or stop • Not enough calcium or other minerals and the for the cycle is interrupted • Overuse and the muscle fatigues
