  1. Life After Cancer Treatment

  2. Cancer treatment is probably one of the most difficult stages of life for most sufferers. Many cancer conquerors, or survivors (as you may want to call them), have reported that while they were undergoing the treatment, they were offered lots of support and information. However, once the treatment was stopped, they entered a completely new world – theworld filled with more questions.

  3. Who is a Cancer Survivor According to the National Cancer Institute, a cancer survivors include anyone who has cancer, or is detected of having the disease, from the very diagnosis stage through the rest of his/her life. Friends, family members, and caregivers are all a part of this survivorship experience. While some patients do not appreciate of the idea of being called a survivor, many patients have been helped with this term, as it means embracing a new life beyond the illness.

  4. Immediately After Treatment At the end of cancer treatment, it is often a rejoicing moment for most patients. You will feel a sense of relief to have finished with the demanding treatment and ready to leave your painful experiences behind you.

  5. However, at the same time, you are likely to feel worried and sad. It is a common concern whether cancer will return or not, and what needs to be done after treatment. As the treatment ends, you may feel that your life will return to where it all started before the diagnosis. But, it normally takes time to recover. There will be permanent scars on the body, or a patient may be restricted to activities. There may be some emotional effects as well.

  6. What is Normal Post Cancer Treatment? Patients who have undergone caner treatment usually describe the first few months as time change. It is not really easy to get back to normal life, as it is difficult to understand what is normal for a cancer patient. People usually say that life is likely to have a new meaning or they have a completely different outlook towards life. Also, things keep changing, including the physical self, as the body starts recovering. The term “normal”, after care treatment, may include incorporating regular changes in your eating habits lifestyle, and sources of support.

  7. Follow-up and Medical Care Getting proper follow-up and medical care is the key to stay healthy after cancer treatment. All survivors should ensure that their follow-up care is not compromised. You must know what to expect from your cancer treatment and how to implement the course of action, make plans, lifestyle changes and take important decisions.

  8. Coping with such issues, however, can be challenging. Yet most survivors say that being a part of the decision process regarding medical care and lifestyle changes is one of the best ways to regain self control that was lost during the treatment. Research has proven that people who feel more controlled are likely to function better. Being active and having a core support group can also help to recover faster.

  9. Once cancer treatment is over, follow-up care planning needs to be done. Follow-up involves seeing the doctor on a regular basis and going for periodic medical checkup. Follow-up also depends on the type of cancer and treatment given, along with overall health. It is generally different for individuals who have been treated for the disease
