10 useful household tips for living without plastic

The less plastic that surrounds us at home, the less we expose ourselves to toxins that pose a risk to human health, such as bisphenol A, styrene, lead, phthalates, and you will have less plastic waste to send them to the landfill or for recycling. You can also install garbage bins or trash bins to minimize the waste.

  1. 10 useful household tips for living without plastic It is becoming increasingly difficult every day to limit the role of plastic in our lives. It haunts us almost everywhere. Here are some additional ideas on how to avoid using it. Here are a few regular weekly observations on how you can reduce the amount of plastic in our lives. Share your recommendations in the comments: 1.Stop buying juices, soda, or mineral water in plastic bottles. Switch to glass containers or reuse plastic containers. Cook compotes instead of store juices. If you buy bottled water, look at the date of the spill on the packaging, often such water has been in plastic for more than 2-3 months, then what is the use of it? It is better to filter/boil the tap water already, even if it is leaking. 2.Avoid chewing gum. The paradox is that all chewing gums are made of plastic. Since World War II, the food industry has stopped using natural rubber in chewing gum and has replaced it with synthetic rubber, which is also known as polyethylene and polyvinyl acetate. These substances are considered toxic and are known to cause tumor growth in laboratory rats, but due to industry pressure, they were not banned. Also, think about where the thrown chewing gums go. They do not decompose. 3.Use glass or metal containers in the freezer. No need to use plastic in the freezer. The glass container will not burst from frost, and if you fill it only by 2/3, the main thing is to let the jar slowly thaw. And even better option sealed metal containers. For ice, you can also find a metal tray. 4.Say NO to plastic straws! Use reusable tubes if necessary. When it comes to plastic waste, straws are one of the leaders. For example, in the United States, 500 million plastic straws are thrown daily, which is enough to fill 127 school buses every day. If you can’t live without a straw, take a reusable bag and carry it with you. The tubes are also made of glass, stainless steel, paper, and there is always an alternative to plastic.

  2. 5.Eat whole ice cream Avoid containers made of polystyrene foam and plastic spoons, and do not buy ice cream in cardboard cups. The best option is to cook the ice cream at home yourself in metal containers. It will be better in quality anyway. 6.Make your own yogurt. Yogurt is very simple to make yourself using fermentation. This way, you can avoid a lot of plastic jars in your bin. You can also install storage 7.Use a bucket for composting organics. When you start separating and composting organic waste, you will see how much less plastic garbage bags will be used, even biodegradable. You will also have compost fertilizer for growing indoor plants and herbs. 8.Use soap in bars instead of liquid. We have long switched to soap in handmade bars and are very happy about it. It erases and washes no worse than liquid soap, and most importantly, there are no additional packages, no plastic. 9.Choose toilet paper that is not wrapped in polyethylene. This is not difficult to do, especially since the paper that is unpacked is often made from recycled paper. 10.Use reusable pads or menstrual cups On average, a woman uses up to 16,800 disposable pads throughout her life. Reusable pads require some getting used to and maintenance, but they are a good alternative, and most importantly, less plastic waste.
