  1. Social Studies and Science Students have been learning about Columbus Day, and Fire Safety. They will soon begin a unit on Earth Studies for Science. Dates to Remember October 18 – 3K Fundraiser October 23 – 1 pm Early Release October 24 – No School Reading Homework When reading homework arrives please try to complete it on the night it comes home. If your family does not have time return it the following day. Students will meet with me in group 2-3 times weekly. • Core Reading Strategies • Questioning with Fiction and Non-Fiction Material • Main Idea and Big Idea with Non-Fiction • Metacognition • Authors Purpose • Non-Fiction Text Features • Summarizing the Beginning, Middle, and End of a Book • Language Standards • Our class has been focusing on: • Verbs • Adjectives • Contractions • Collective Noun Writing Update Students have been working on strategies for conferencing, personal word wall use in writing, the editors checklist, setting goals, and writing intentions .
