Animal Health Network What is it?
What Is the Animal Health Network? http://animalhealthnetwork.org/ • Communication conduit for the State Vet • Sends alerts about vital disease and/or biosecurity issues • Targets small producers • Provides steps they can take to protect their animals • Uses relationships Extension has at the local level • Deliver critical messages from the State Vet in times of crisis
Animal Health Network What happens when a message is disseminated?
Message Dissemination • Using feed retailers’ preferred method of contact, messages will be disseminated by Extension (originating from the State Vet’s office). • Feed retailers will receive request to disseminate the State Vet’s message to producers. • Feed retailer information will be held by UK Cooperative Extension – NOT the State Vet’s office.
Follow Up • After the first message or two have been disseminated, UK Cooperative Extension will ask feed retailers to participate in a survey. • Questions may include: • How the message was disseminated • Period of time between when the message was received and when it was disseminated to producers • Approximate number of producers reached • Strengths/areas for improvement of the program

County Agent RoleStep 1 • Recruit Feed Retailers • Marketing information describing the program will be available.
County Agent RoleStep 2 • Collect information from participating feed retailers: • Preferred method to receive the messages • Feed retailer contact/business info • Owner manager contact info • How the message will be disseminated to consumers • Displayed on a bulletin board • Flyers • Word of mouth • Other?
