  1. Salt Water Pools and Salt Water Chlorinators - Are They Worth it? It may not burn your eyes, your skin may feel softer, and your hair will not turn green. Although it would seems that a salt-water pool system would be a natural way to go that might not necessarily be the case. The chemical name for the salt used in salt-water pools is sodium chloride. Sodium chloride is the raw ingredient used in making chlorine. The only difference is that the salt-water pool makes the chlorine itself with a salt-water chlorinator instead of you buying the chlorine and adding it yourself. Aside from the chemical aspect of a salt-water pool still being an issue, the salt- water chlorinator has issues of its own. It is necessary for the salt-water pool chlorinator to run for a good amount to time to produce enough chlorine to keep the water at a stable balance. With the presence of phosphates in the water, the chlorinator can overwork and make a reserve of chlorine in the water. The amount of salt in the water has to maintain the correct levels or the chlorinator will not work. People often think that because a salt-water chlorinator produces its own chlorine that you do not have to test the water weekly. This is not the case. You must test the waters to make sure there is a Ph balance within the reasonable standards or your chlorine will not be as effective as it should be.

  2. Other common issues that a salt-water pool has are that the salt can crystallize and clog or damage the filter. It has also been found that in large pools that the salt- water chlorinator cannot keep up in the hotter weather. The water from the salt- water pool is not good for plant life or grass around the pool. It may be better than a chlorinated pool but the salt level are too high and can kill the grass and plant life. It has also been said that salt water pools attract bees and other bugs to the area. With all the cons and problems of a salt-water pool and the salt-water chlorinator, it does not seem to be the perfect choice anymore. Just because the salt-water works in the ocean does not mean that is should be brought into your swimming pool. There are much better and chemical free ways to produce the crystal waters of the ocean in your own swimming pool. There are many differences between the natural pools from the salt-water pools with the salt-water chlorinator systems. These differences may not seem like much but over time, you will be better off with the effects of a natural pool system. You will be thanked by your friends and family for looking out for their health along with bring better for the environment and all the plant life that is near by.
