  1. Planning Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization (ACSM) Activities for TB Control Asia Regional Training

  2. ACSM Pilot Workshop: A debriefing Purpose: • To help countries with GFATM grants that include ACSM components recognize roadblocks and identify action steps for moving forward with ACSM.

  3. Objectives: Create a common understanding of ACSM, their linkages, and how they function in synergy to contribute to TB control. Create understanding of practical steps for developing effective ACSM activities, evaluating barriers and opportunities, and using existing and newly developed ACSM resources e.g. KAP Survey Guide, ACSM Handbook. Share lessons learned and experiences between countries Develop action plans to accelerate the implementation of ACSM activities in-country and assess the need for outside technical assistance to do so. Participating countries: • Cambodia • India • Indonesia • Nepal • Papua New Guinea • Philippines • Thailand • Vietnam India and Nepal supported by PATH with USAID funds  Cambodia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam supported by STOP TB with USAID funds. Total participants: 36

A debriefing... • Day 1&2 designed to create a common understanding of definitions and link ACSM to overall TB control goals. • Day 3-4-5 focused on practical steps and group work to identify barriers to ACSM implementation, develop country action plans, identify TA needs. • Technical information sessions to build capacity to plan and evaluate ACSM activities.

  7. A debriefing... • Country teams were able tocomplete the objectives and develop their country action plan for moving their ACSM activities forward in the next six-12 months. • Countries were able to identify technical assistance needed to support the implementation of their action plans

  8. A debriefing... Within country teams the workshop provided an opportunity to create a common understanding and initiate dialogue. Five things participants liked most: • ACSM content and action plan development • The participatory methods used • The facilitation • The opportunity to share between countries • The resource materials

  9. A debriefing... Things they learned more about: • ACSM definitions • Steps in planning A&C activities • Organize and facilitate a workshop • Status of AVSM progress in their country and other countries • How to do a barrier analysis New skills learned: Action planning; facilitation and use of participatory methods; networking and sharing skills; communication and advocacy skills; how to conduct research and use indicators

  10. A debriefing... • There were a number of lessons learned and best practices identified through the pilot workshop around planning, logistics, and curriculum content. These are documented and will be very helpful for future planning. • Set of recommendation and next steps documented.
