  3. Stable Electricity Pricing • De-couple electricity from other energy pricing pressures • Use non-fossil fuels for feedstock • Have municipality owned and controlled generation • Eliminate market pressure on pricing

Environmental Responsibility • The Town of Thurmont recognizes it’s responsibility for environmental stewardship • The envisioned facility will have a zero carbon footprint for the electricity by using renewable biomass for fuel. This will remove over 1.4 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere annually.

  6. Environmental Responsibility • Provide secondary and resultant environmental benefits • Use biomass material that is currently going into landfill • Use biomass that is currently polluting the Chesapeake Bay • By using waste heat productively, further reduce carbon footprint

  10. Leadership by Example • The Mayor and Council recognize a unique opportunity to make a change for the benefit of the citizens of Thurmont, Frederick County, the State of Maryland. • They recognize that this is but a small step, but the longest journey begins with a small step.
