  1. Discover Why Diving In Larnaca Is Said To Be One Of The Best Diving Experiences For Any PADI Certified Open Water Diver Whether you are a beginner or an experienced open water diver who has explored the waters of oceans across the world, there is little that can compare to diving in Larnaca, and one of the main attractions and reasons why divers flock to this dive site is the infamous Zenobia shipwreck. However, to see and experience this underwater wonderworld, you must at least be certified in open water diving and an open water diving course by a recognised PADI institution will teach you the necessary water skills. To obtain your diving certification, you can take online courses on the theory section of SSI or PADI which will provide you with an edge before you enter the water to continue learning and demonstrate your open water skills in limited water training and then open water training. The in-water training, however, requires physical training and can take a couple of days for a course at certain diving destinations, depending on where you choose to get certified. Once you are fully certified, the great ocean and mystical creatures, spectacular sites, and all its secrets await you and you can visit sites like the Zenobia, Limassol, Larnaca, Pissouri, and Paphos, if you find yourself on the island of Cyprus, of course. Having said that, there are hundreds of diving sites around the world that you can explore once you are PADI certified, as PADI certification is recognised internationally. When you have your Open Water Diver certification, you can dive up to 60 feet or 18 meters (or 40ft or 12m for children between 10-12-years) with a diving partner who has the same or higher certification standard (the other diver must be 18 or older for Junior Open Water divers). While you are not required to be accompanied by a skilled instructor or divemaster, if you want to visit dive sites such as Larnaca, it is a good idea to have an experienced dive instructor with you. However, the Zenobia wreck is not the only diving site one can visit when diving in Larnaca, as Elpida - the cargo ship that was deliberately submerged in 2019 to form part of an artificial reef - is equally popular and offers as much to see as any other natural reef. This vessel, which is 63m in length, is laying on the seabed at 30m and was descended below on 7 December 2019in a collaborated effort between the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism, and the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR), after recognising the importance of creating aquatic protected areas, for conservation.

  2. When sea conditions are calm, divers can explore Elpida in all her splendour as she has become the home and shelter for many species of fish and other underwater inhabitants, over the last two years. This manmade structure will over time become a fully functional aquatic reef that could potentially mimic some of the characteristics of a natural reef. Larnaca is therefore the definitive environment for recreational diving as it does not involve a demanding diving expedition. It offers the perfect form of relaxation and the greater your open water diving experience, the more you can explore and see. The equipment used for diving in Larnaca is usually open-circuit scuba, although semi-closed or fully automatic electronic closed- circuit rebreathers can also be included in the range of recreational diving. The aquatic environment is a wide world to explore and if you are not an experienced diver or do not know the environment, many things can go wrong, or you could miss out on seeing some of the best underwater sites. For the best open water diving experience, it is always a good idea to purchase a diving package from a local, reputable diving centre. This will allow you to undertake safe and controlled diving expeditions to the best diving sites an area has to offer.
