  1. Bridge to Terabithia Reality Vs IMAGINATION

  2. Symbols and Imagination“…you gotta keep your mind open. Wide open.” What is a symbol? A symbol is a form or image implying or representing something beyond its obvious and immediate meaning. Example: The rope swing is a symbol for the entrance to Terabithia. From the chapters you’ve read, what other symbols can you think of did the children come up with?

  3. Creating Terabithia Through Symbols Leslie perceives many real items as symbols for the imaginary world of Terabithia. There is a transition between the real world that Leslie and Jess live in and the created world of Terabithia. There are many similarities between the two worlds. Creatures and events that take place in Terabithia represent real-life people and occurrences.

  4. Parallels Between The Two Worlds Lark Creek Terabithia Janice Avery Rope swing Pine cones Jess and Leslie Treehouse Leslie’s dog Squirrels The Giant Entrance to Terabithia Grenades Rulers of Terabithia Terabithian stronghold Prince Terrien Squ-ogres

  5. Think about this… Why do you think Jess and Leslie create an imaginary world? Why do you think creating imaginary symbols help people cope with difficult situations? Can you create your own Terabithia?
