  2. Do We Really Need Laws? • Check out the video – Be ready to discuss. Problems with the video? Differences/Similarities https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOLJeOHF8G0 • OAPP (on a piece of paper) – write down 5 activities that you do on most days. Next to each item list any rules or laws that affect that activity. • Continue on to the SAME PAPER..

  3. Laws are everywhere.. • What are morals? • Morals are a society’s fundamental belief as to what is right or wrong. For example, killing another human is wrong. • What are ethics? • Ethics are the rules that we live our lives by. They are influenced by our morals. For example, because I believe killing another human is wrong, ethically I do not kill other humans. • What does it mean to be immoral or unethical?

  4. Reading Time • Read on p. 5 “Law and Values” • Be sure to write down the 7 goals we expect our legal system to achieve (on the same paper) • Continue reading through p. 8 (stop at problem set 1.3) • Write down 4 areas or “values” that our laws can deal with • Value #1 – explanation • If time permits – complete problem set 1.3 • Hand in this paper when you leave!
