  4. 2.ACADEMIC PROGRAMS 2.1. Students may enroll in the undergraduate full-time (3 years) program or part-time (4 years) program. 2.2. The structure of an academic year: - the academic year starts on October 1st and ends on August 30th the following year; - the academic year has two 14 week terms; - an exam session lasts 4 weeks and follows immediately after the end of each term; - there are 3 no-class breaks during the academic year: * a 10 day Christmas break, * a one week break between the two terms; * a one month Summer break.

Practical training is a specific academic activity and contains: 8 weeks x 8 hours/day = 320 hours which represent about 30% from yearly educational curriculum. The practical training will be on board commercial ships on a contractual basis between the University, student and ship owners. The student will receive a sailor salary and will be trained by a marine officer on board. The curriculum of the academic years is organized as follows:

LICENSING Graduates are allowed to take the officer license exam if they had at least 6 months of practical experience on board of a ship as cadet and they passed the required physical and psychological exams. If the practical period is less than that required, the graduates receive the sailor certificate and can take the officer license exam at a later date upon completion of the required practical training. ALL THE QUALIFICATION EXAMS ARE TAKEN THROUGH “ROMANIAN NAVAL AUTHORITY “

The school ship is also used for practical training as part of the LABORATORY OF THERMIC MOTORS AND ACTIONS for the students in the “Naval Electromechanics” department.
