  2. Course • This is Zoology. If you received an NC (completed time for time) or did not pass biology you should not be registered for this class. Check your transcript or discuss this with the curriculum counselor.

  3. Syllabus • Instructor: Marie Lewis • Office: Eagle Room 305 • E-mail: mmlewis@floydboe.net • Phone: 706 236-1870 • Office Hours: 7am-8am, or 3:15 to 4:00pm

  4. Course Objectives • Students will demonstrate an understanding of • Classification to the 6 kingdom level • Study of animals • Animal anatomy, physiology, development, histology, ecology, behavior, and evolution • Comparative anatomy and physiology-form and function • Understanding all living things are interconnected. • Humans are dependent on animal species for advances in medicine, ecosystem maintenance, and food supply. • Students will develop laboratory skills including the use of compound and dissection microscopes. • Students will be able to read and understand the scientific literature.

  6. LECTURE Units of Study • Nature of Life and Organisms • Evolution • Morphology & • Physiology of • organisms • (structure & function of organisms)

  7. Attendance • Come to class!!! • If absent (excused) you have 3 days to see the teacher and get your work. YOU are responsible for doing this! • If you have a long term illness meet with me and we will develop a plan of action to assist you with your work.

  8. Assessment • Formal tests: multiple choice/short answer/vocabulary • Informal tests: projects, lab reports, presentations • Quizzes: may or may not be announced • Final Exam: Year end exam…you will have a study guide

  9. Grading • Unit tests, major projects 60% • Quizzes, journals, labs, HW 25% • Final Exam 15%

  10. Grading • If you miss an exam or work • You must notify me • preferably prior to exam day or the day after you miss class • but at least within 24 hours afterward • You must make arrangements to take a make-up within three (3) business days.

  11. Cheating • You Cheat, you’re Meat • Cheating will not be tolerated-it will result in an automatic zero, phone call or meeting with the parents, and possible disciplinarian action.

  12. Research • Paper The intention of this assignment is mostly for the following (in this order): • To introduce you to accessing, reading, and extrapolating from scientific peer-reviewed papers. • To assess your ability to assimilate and compose a scientifically-styled, grammatically correct written argument. • To teach you (and your instructor) about some interesting zoological phenomenon • No plagiarism-give credit to the author
