  5. Blue Period-1904 Shortly after moving to Paris from Barcelona, Picasso began to produce works that were suffused in blue. This particular pigment is effective in conveying a sombre tone. The psychological trigger for these depressing paintings was the suicide of a close friend of Picasso. He was also heavily influenced by the scene in Paris at the time. Paris, at this time, was ridden with poverty, filth, and disease.

  7. Rose Period-1905-06 Following marriage to his first wife, his palette reflected a beige/rose tint. The subject matter was much less depressing than that of the previous Blue Period and reflected his happiness with his love. These works also show scenes from a circus which he frequented.

  15. Picasso Pablo Picasso died on April 8, 1973. Señor Picasso died without a will. His son Claude was named executor of the estate. His first duty was to find a home for the 76,000 items left at the time of his death.
