Language Arts Class Agenda and Homework

This is the agenda for the Language Arts class on Thursday, January 15th and Friday, January 16th. Thursday, January 15th/Friday, January 16th: • Agenda: • Dictado Quiz 1 • Japanese/American Comparison • Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B • Background for Chapter 6 • Begin reading Chapter 6 Homework: Finish read chapter 6 with Cornell Notes—you may use them on the quiz during the next class session, print off the appropriate study guide for chapter 7

  2. Dictado Quiz 1 • Objective: So that I may demonstrate my grammatical, spelling, and usage skills, I will write and punctuate a sentence that I hear. • Write down the passage as I read it aloud to you. Don’t forget to pay close attention to capitalization, punctuation, usage, etc.

  3. Dictado Here is how Bradley wrote it. Please circle any error that you find on your partner’s paper. • The invading Marines had dubbed it “Green Beach” and it was across this killing field that young John Bradley, a Navy corpsman, raced under decimating fire (Bradley 7).

  5. Boogie Woogie Boy of Company B Objective: I will annotate a song, identifying it’s literary devices as well as purpose. Music was an important factor during World War II. Much of the music was about the war, designed to remind both the families at home and the soldiers at war of the important relationships and events in life. We’re going to study one of the most famous songs from that time. After viewing the song’s performance, you will analyze its devices and effects.

  6. Chapter 5 Discussion • Objective: Today I will work in a group to discuss the reason that Flags of Our Fathers was written, adding to the Cornell Notes for that section and writing a reflection about the author’s purpose. • Activity: Discuss the Cornell Notes questions for Chapter 5.

  7. Chapter 6: Armada • Objective: So that I can better appreciate the knowledge the Marines had before landing on Iwo Jima, I will discuss certain photographs. Please draw the following chart on the right side of the next free page(you need 5 rows):
