  2. Snap It! Overview • Overall Problem & Solution • Survey Discussion & Results • Representative Tasks • Scenarios & UI Design Ideas

  3. Snap It! Overall problem • Can you label this image? • Can you come up with an algorithm to succinctly label this image?

  4. Snap It! Solution • Humans do a better job at labelling images. • So, we use our game as an incentive to get people to willingly label images. • With this data, we can build better search engines

  5. Snap It! Survey • Would you play games with other friends on your mobile phone? Yes: 35.00% No: 65% • Would you mind playing a mobile game with strangers?I mind: 20% I don’t mind: 80%

  6. Snap It! Survey (cont.) How much free time do you/would you normally spend playing games on your mobile phone per day?5 min:50% 15 min:10% 30 min:30% 60 min:10% If you were playing a game with someone else on your mobile phone, how long can you afford to wait for another player's response?10 s:45% 30 s:25% 1 min:10% Don’t:20%

  7. Snap It! Survey Comments (cont.) “I really like the games which integrate the use of the camera and your surroundings into the game. They should have more of those games” “Keeps me entertained when I'm bored. Nothing too extreme to avoid looking foolish in public.”

  8. Snap It! Rules Each game has three 2-minute rounds played by 3 players. There are 2 “guessers” and 1 “snapper”, After each round, these positions rotate.

  9. Snap It! Rules Snapper: Submit a picture of your choosing and an image tag to go with it. Guesser: The guesser sees the image and tries to guess the tag. Snappers gain points when their tags are guessed correctly, as does the player who guessed it. The snapper may continue “snapping” until his 2 minutes run out

  10. Snap It! Representative Tasks • Signing up • New users will want to “test-run” the game without investing too much time and energy into it. • Once they are hooked to the game, they will sign up. • Playing as a guesser • Unlike snappers, guessers need to guess the image taken by the snapper. • They can choose to skip images that are difficult to guess. • Playing as a snapper • Scour his/her immediate environment and capture an image of a keyword of his/her own choosing

  11. Snap It! Scenario I • Max just introduced Sam to the newest mobile game on the market, “SnapIt!”. Sam does not want to create a profile just yet because he thinks he might not like the game. Instead, Sam would prefer to play the game as a guest and then create an account finally if the game appeals to him. • Task involved: Signing up

  12. Snap It! Scenario II • Max, a returning player, is at his girlfriend's house. They are about to go out on a date, but Max's girlfriend is still in the shower. Max decides to kill some time by playing “SnapIt!”. As a returning player, he signs in under his username, NiNja, and plays a game of “SnapIt!” to build up his rank. In this particular instance of the game, he starts off as a guesser and has to correctly guess the images posted by another player. However, the snapper in the game starts to cheat in the middle of the game… • Task involved: Play the game as a guesser

  13. Snap It! Scenario III • Sun is in the zoo. He's feeling quite sleepy and bored. He decides to whip out his phone and play “SnapIt!”. Sun signs in and is paired up with another player almost instantly. He is really excited because he gets to start off the game in his favorite role, the snapper. Sun has a short amount of time to survey his surroundings, and snap images of keywords of his own choosing. • Task involved: Play the game as a snapper
